Servicing

Regular vehicle inspection and servicing can extend your cars life. Problems can be found before they become more serious and more costly to repair in the future. Reap the benefits of having your car serviced by our highly skilled experienced mechanics. All servicing is carried out in accordance with manufacturers schedules.

Brakes

As brakes wear down, they will produce a squealing or grinding noise. This indicates that the brake discs are approaching their minimum thickness, and will need replacing. Discs are always replaced in pairs, as an asymmetrical braking system can be dangerous, and result in your vehicle pulling to one side while braking. In order to keep the braking system calibrated and in full working order, we recommend also replacing the brake pads whenever you replace your brake discs.

Soft, spongy brakes are an indicator of a brake fluid leak, or that the brake fluid should be changed. When pressure increases inside your hydraulic system, the energy required to compress the molecules in the fluid is emitted as heat energy. Therefore, brake fluid must be able to withstand large temperature changes without changing state. Most available brake fluids are glycol ether based, but liquid mineral oil and silicone fluids are also used. These liquids have a very high boiling point, but are also hygroscopic, meaning that they will absorb moisture from the air over time. This moisture will lower the boiling point of your brake fluid dramatically, meaning that your brake system could cease working entirely above a certain speed. Most manufacturers will recommend changing your brake fluid at least every two years.

Our expert team will ensure your brake system won’t let you down. A free brake test is available to all existing Wings of Welwyn customers

Tyres

Well maintained tyres will reduce your fuel consumption and improve the handling and safety of your vehicle. The legal limit for tyre tread is 1.6, across the central ¾ of the tread. Failure to comply with this could result in 3 penalty points on your licence, and a fine of up to £2,500 per tyre.

You should regularly check your tyres for signs of damage and wear. Tread indicators built into your tyres will help you to identify when your tyres require changing. Should you require assistance in reading the signs of wear in your tyres, simply bring your vehicle in and our dedicated team will be happy to inspect them for you, and provide you with a no obligation quote.
